OUCO has successfully delivered four robust 4t20m folding boom cranes to an Icelandic client, designed for installation on two crab fishing vessels. These cranes are built to perform reliably in the severe conditions of Icelandic waters, where temperatures can plunge to -40°C, seas are often rough, and handling processes are highly specialized. All cranes are RMRS certified and incorporate tailored engineering to ensure seamless operation in this extreme marine environment.
The cranes will be utilized for a range of critical onboard duties, including loading live crabs into RSW tank baskets, unloading catches to shore or transport vessels, moving general cargo, and hoisting bait and supplies. To meet the precise needs of the customer, OUCO implemented a series of custom features. Each vessel is equipped with port and starboard cranes in mirror-image layout, operated via a unified remote control system that enhances both efficiency and positioning accuracy during crabbing tasks. A square base design welded directly to the deck increases structural stability.
Key cold-weather adaptations include a fully enclosed, heated crane cab to maintain functionality at -40°C, along with compliance with Sea State 3 requirements for operation in challenging sea conditions. Additional practical details such as a detachable ladder, a stowable slewing plate, and custom-fitted boom brackets further improve safety and integration with the vessel layout.
This delivery represents OUCO’s first full “crane + deck equipment” package in the Icelandic market. With factory testing completed and shipment underway, these cranes are set to provide durable and efficient support for our client’s demanding crab fishing activities, reinforcing OUCO’s growing presence in the region.
